Routine foot care - How to take care of your Feet

Proper foot care can prevent many foot problems from developing and a person can avoid or moderate such problems as a sprain or an infection by taking several precautions:
1. Avoid walking or running barefoot on cement or other hard surfaces.
2. Do not wear platform or high-heeled shoes for long periods of time.
3. Use foot powders or lotions to avoid recurrence of athlete's foot or other types of foot infections.

Diabetics and other persons with poor circulation are especially prone to foot problems, such as infections and ulcers. They should obtain their physicians' advice on the extra care their feet require.

Routine Foot Care

  • The feet should be washed at least once a day and you should dry thoroughly between the toes.
  • The socks should be changed daily, and it is also advisable to change the type of shoes worn at least once a day.
  • Toenails should be kept trimmed straight across, in order to minimize the occurrence of ingrown nails.
  • Badly fitting footwear is the major cause of foot problems in modern society. It is important to choose footwear carefully, particularly when buying shoes for children.
  • Good shoes give support under the instep and heel and give enough room for the toes to spread inside the shoe.
  • When trying on shoes, wear your normal socks or stockings. Try on both shoes and walk around in them. If there is any discomfort, do not buy them.
  • Children's feet should be measured regularly since their feet grow quickly and also change shape. The soft bones can be easily deformed by badly fitting shoes.
  • Shoes should be discarded when they become too small.
  • Shoes mold themselves to the first wearer's feet and should preferably not be handed down from one child to another.
  • The choice of materials for footwear is important.
  • Shoes should be made of a natural material, such as leather, suede, canvas, or rope.
  • Socks should be made of wool or cotton. Synthetic materials do not absorb sweat nor allow it to evaporate.
  • A damp foot is vulnerable to infection.

It is important to note that not all probiotics are same. Some have millions, some billions of good bacteria. Probiotics are found in yogurt.

Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol, which the human body metabolizes slowly and can be consumed by diabetics, since it does not require insulin secretion.

Figs as a Medicine for Constipation

CONSTIPATION may be caused by many things, inheritance, malformation of the rectum and other parts, errors of food in the mother and in bottle-fed babies.
What is the treatment? If the baby is nursed and the mother is constipated, she should at once change her habits and diet. She should exercise in the open air at least two hours every day, and have a movement daily, even if she must take some mild laxative.
What should she drink and eat? She should drink plenty of water, and pure rich milk, cocoa, eat oatmeal and cornmeal gruels. She should not drink tea or coffee. She can eat fruit, most green vegetables and some meat, but not much starchy food. Baby may not get enough residue in his bowels. Give him one or two meals daily of modified milk made up of oatmeal gruel instead of barley, and give him plenty of water between his meals. One teaspoonful of cream in a little hot water given before nursing is often beneficial, or one or two teaspoonfuls of beef juice may be given night and morning, After six months a little orange or prune juice may be added.

Constipation In Bottle Fed Babies

Add a little more top-milk or cream to each bottle than the formula gives; do not pasteurize the food unless it is necessary; do not use lime-water, but bicarbonate of soda in proper strength in its place, as lime-water is often very constipating.
Malted food may be added to each bottle for some time. If necessary, stimulate the rectum mildly; this can be done by holding the baby over a small chamber at exactly the same time after a meal each day and insert into the bowel a small cone of oiled paper, or use a small castile soap suppository. This may form a habit in a few days. Suppositories of gluten are very beneficial if used in the morning. The child should not be allowed to go longer than twenty-four hours without a passage.
A enema made up of one or two tablespoonfuls of sweet oil may be given with a bulb syringe, or an ounce of warm water to which has been added one-half tea¬spoonful of glycerin, or one-half pint of warm soap-suds. Do not give it every day; massage the baby's abdomen. Your hand should be warm. Begin at the right side groin and make a series of circular movements with your fingers, lightly at first, and then press down harder as the baby becomes accustomed to it; work your way up gradually to the ribs, then across to the ribs on the left side, and down to the left groin. This can be done twice daily for eight or ten minutes at a time, and always at the same time of day, but never soon after a meal. Olive oil may safely be given for constipation to a baby,--from twenty drops to one teaspoonful one or two times daily, but castor oil should not be given for constipation, as after a time it leaves the baby more constipated than ever. Sometimes inserting your finger, well oiled, into the rectum, will produce a passage.
For older children, decrease the amount of white bread, toast, potatoes, and give green vegetables, oatmeal, and graham bread instead, with plenty of proper fruit twice daily; raw, scraped apples are sometimes the best fruit to use.

Good Health Tips - 14 Tips for Good Health

1. Pure atmospheric air is composed of nitrogen, oxygen and a very small proportion of carbonic acid gas. Air once breathed has lost the chief part of its oxygen, and acquired a proportionate increase of carbonic acid gas. Therefore, health requires that we breathe the same air once only.

2. The solid part of our bodies is continually wasting and requires to be repaired by fresh substances. Therefore, food, which is to repair the loss, should be taken with due regard to the exercise and waste of the body.

3. The fluid part of our bodies also wastes constantly; there is but one fluid in animals, which is water. Therefore, water only is necessary, and no artifice can produce a better drink.

4. The fluid of our bodies is to the solid in proportion as nine to one. Therefore, a like proportion should prevail in the total amount of food taken.

5. Light exercises an important influence upon the growth and vigor of animals and plants. Therefore, our dwellings should freely admit the sun's rays.

6. Decomposing animal and vegetable substances yield various noxious gases, which enter the lungs and corrupt the blood. Therefore, all impurities should be kept away from our abodes, and every precaution be observed to secure a pure atmosphere.

7. Warmth is essential to all the bodily functions. Therefore, an equal bodily temperature should be maintained by exercise, by clothing or by fire.

8. Exercise warms, invigorates and purifies the body; clothing preserves the warmth the body generates; fire imparts warmth externally. Therefore, to obtain and preserve warmth, exercise and clothing are preferable to fire.

9. Fire consumes the oxygen of the air, and produces noxious gases. Therefore, the air is less pure in the presence of candles, gas or coal fire, than otherwise, and the deterioration should be repaired by increased ventilation. The skin is a highly-organized membrane, full of minute pores, cells, blood-vessels, and nerves; it imbibes moisture or throws it off according to the state of the atmosphere or the temperature of the body. It also "breathes," like the lungs (though less actively). All the internal organs sympathize with the skin. Therefore, it should be repeatedly cleansed.

10. Late hours and anxious pursuits exhaust the nervous system and produce disease and premature death. Therefore, the hours of labor and study should be short.

11. Mental and bodily exercise are equally essential to the general health and happiness. Therefore, labor and study should succeed each other.

12. Man will live most happily upon simple solids and fluids, of which a sufficient but temperate quantity should be taken. Therefore, over-indulgence in strong drinks, tobacco, snuff, opium, and all mere indulgences, should be avoided.

13. Sudden alternations of heat and cold are dangerous (especially to the young and the aged). Therefore, clothing, in quantity and quality, should be adapted to the alternations of night and day, and of the seasons. And therefore, also, drinking cold water when the body is hot, and hot tea and soups when cold are productive of many evils.

14. Never visit a sick person (especially if the complaint be of a contagious nature) with an empty stomach, as this disposes the system more readily to receive the contagion. And in attending a sick person, place yourself where the air passes from the door or window to the bed of the diseased; not between the diseased person and any fire that is in the room, as the heat of the fire will draw the infectious vapor in that direction.

Natural Remedy for Diarrhea - Professor Ernst Moro Carrot Soup

In the early XXth century diarrhea was the cause of death for many babies in Germany and in the whole world. Professor Ernst Moro (1874 - 1951) the head of the children hospital in Heidelberg at that time found out by experiment that a simple carrot soup decreased the death rate of babies suffering from diarrhea by nearly 50%.
A German study published in 2002[1] outlines that acidic oligosaccharides formed in aqueous extracts from carrots (carrot soup) may lead to less adherence of bacterial agents to the mucosal wall of the bowel, thus being a more effective treatment for acute gastrointestinal infections of children than glucose-electrolyte-solution oral rehydration.

In 2009, experiments showed that Professor Moro's Carrot Soup can cure diarrhea caused by bacteria which are resistant to antibiotics.[2]

Even today the diarrhea is one of the main causes of death among children in developing countries, and many lives can be saved by using this simple recipe which can cure the disease almost as well as antibiotics.

How to prepare the Moro's Carrot Soup:

1. Boil 500 grams of peeled carrots for a full hour and then purée them.
2. Add boiled water to make up a liter
3. Add 3 grams of cooking salt.

Consuming several portions of Moro's Carrot Soup daily, should help people recover from diarrhea - without antibiotics!
